Merging
I drive a lot; a lot. Anymore most of my driving involves interstates. I grew up driving around 2 lane roads and that is really where my comfort zone lies. So Interstate 4 lanes are not my favorite. However, Interstate four lanes aren’t so bad around here, there isn’t that much traffic and there is just one road that goes where you need to go but as I get to larger cities the driving becomes a little more tricky. And it is not the 4 lanes (or in some cases a bunch more lanes than that!) that are difficult – I don’t mind the lanes because I just pick my spot and stay in my lane and keep going. Pretty simple. What really gets to me is the transitions – it is when you have to get on or off, when you have to cross lanes to go the right direction, when you have to pick the right lane to get to where you need to go - that is when the driving becomes difficult, when you have to figure out which lane to get in to or you have to merge onto a crowded road that I get really apprehensive. I don’t mind it when I’m driving along and there are no changes that need to be made, but when I need to change out of that one lane to merge or cross over or pick another lane, I really get queasy! Life is like that too. As long as things are going along smoothly, we are OK. No big decisions need to be made, no changes have to be considered, we just go along on autopilot in our lane and we’re fine. Life is good. It is the transitions, when we need to change, or take a new direction or accept something different and life becomes more complicated. We are uncomfortable, we get a little apprehensive or maybe a lot apprehensive when we have to make choices of where we need to go or what we need to be that life becomes more difficult. That’s when God comes in……. no matter how convoluted the lanes ahead of us seem to be – no matter what changes we need to make, God will always be there, will always stick with us, will hold our hand and even help turn the steering wheel. We still have to make the change but if we trust in God we can push away the anxiety and queasiness and trust that we will get where we are suppose to go!
Amen!
